| St. Martin is divided in two different territories, the southern part is called Dutch but is an independant country and the northern part French. Blessed with many superb white beaches, backed by scenic hills, it has embraced tourism wholeheartedly. Philipsburg, the capital of Dutch Sint Maarten, is a popular stop for those interested in duty free shopping, casinos and nightlife and has some great bars around the waterfront. Marigot: Shoppers head to the Marina Royale, the boutiques on the rue de la Republique and a small shopping mall recenty built close to the Fort Louis Marina. The open-air market, run by indian merchants, are a cornucopia of tropical fruits and vegetables.
